Building disputes

These include:

Disputes relating to building contracts which commonly arise in relation to the standard of works undertaken and their cost.

Disputes involving alleged negligence on the part of other similar professionals, whether this is related to the design and supervision of works or the undertaking of pre-purchase inspections and reports.

Party Wall Matters

A party wall is a boundary wall between properties over which each side has rights of support or protection.  If either side wishes to undertake works affecting the party wall, then what is known as a Party Wall Award has to be prepared and agreed between the owners on each side.  Such works and Awards are usually negotiated and agreed by Building Surveyors and in these circumstances if the two Surveyors fail to agree, a third Surveyor can be instructed to make final decisions.  Party Wall Surveyors are specialists in this type of work and we routinely advise on such works and Awards.

Boundary Disputes

Unfortunately boundary disputes are a very common area of difficulty between neighbours. There are again many misconceptions regarding the line of boundary between properties, and to avoid potentially lengthy and expensive disputes, it is often best to get independent professional advice at an early stage.
