BUSINESS RATES - TIME IS RUNNING OUT!
Do you occupy business premises?
The 2005 Rating List runs until 31 March 2010 and then will be replaced by the 2010 List.
There is therefore very little time left to appeal against your current Rateable Value.
Why bother?
If you have not had your rating assessment checked now is the time to act because you may have been overpaying rates since 1 April 2005. This could be due to an error in the floor areas used in the calculation; because there has been a change in the amount of accommodation you occupy; or perhaps there has been a change in the locality which has impacted on values. These are just a few of the reasons why reductions may be achieved.
Recently we have successfully achieved reductions in the rates liabilities for a number of clients, including retailers around Exeter City Centre, an occupier of two industrial units who benefited from a £1,700 reduction in rateable value, and occupiers of business premises who were entitled to Small Business Rate Relief - one of whom is receiving reimbursement of more than £3,000 in overpaid rates..
Drew Pearce can provide you with cost effective rating assessment advice and would be delighted to help you save on your Business Rates.
Once the 2010 Rating List comes into effect on 1 April 2010 there will be very limited grounds on which to retrospectively appeal against the 2005 Rating List assessment. Therefore now is the time to take advice.
